Thomas N. Henderson moved to Tampa in 1891 and along with other businesses, he opened and operated the Tampa Harness and Wagon Company. He purchased and was president of the Tampa Coca-Cola Bottling Works. Henderson also served as Tampa’s Chief of Police, on the Board of Public Works and as a member of the City Council. When D.B. McKay resigned on October 27, 1931, Henderson became mayor to complete the seven days remaining in D.B. McKay’s term. He later served as Hillsborough County Commissioner from 1935 until his death on October 13, 1944. The building that housed the Tampa Harness & Wagon Company, at 1007-1009 Franklin Street, stands today, as does Henderson’s original sign fading yet visible facing north up on the top corner of the brick facade. A high-end nightclub is being planned for the space.

Henderson was one driven man!
Have a great weekend!
Interesting story. Can't imagine living in Florida in 1891! Talk about oppressive heat and humidity!
